”Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour” 2 Peter 5:8
Saint Paul in Romans 12:2 talks about being transformed through the renewal of your mind and discerning what is the will of God. However, what are the risks that are destined to take place if this does not occur within ourselves ? What are the consequences to our society ? What happens when we are not united in prayer with Our Beloved Lord and do not reach out our hands to the Blessed Virgin Mary ? Chaos and confusion will come upon us. Last week I discussed the importance of wise proper discernment. What threat comes upon the Church if we the faithful don’t hold up our guard against the tainted culture around us ?
One of the beautiful features of the Catholic Church is that it truly is universal. It truly does represent God’s diverse family. However, for the most part it has maintained a fortified unity. It’s a unity as beautiful as that moment at Pentecost when several tongues still understand one another. It was the anti-Tower of Babel because it was guided by the Holy Spirit. In doing so, the truth was manifested and required no special program to connect with the nations. The people were embraced but of course their false gods were rejected.
When you pander brothers and sisters, you weaken the mission. If the mission is weakened, your audience will not respect you because you are in essence bearing a false witness, and in doing so, you threaten to corrupt or wipe out what is truly valuable and fail to edify what is true. Sometimes that is done because emotions take over in situations without proper evaluation. Faith and reason are like a marriage between and man and woman — they need each other to manifest a part of God’s truth. That is why we have councils. We need to lay all information on the table and then discuss. As I said last week, if something is said, what test was applied to its spirit ?
